Whispers of Kindness ("we," "us," "our") runs whispersofkindness.ca and the membership built around it. This page explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. We've kept it plain on purpose.

Information we collect

What you give us directly. Your name, email address, and mailing address, needed to mail your monthly recipe card and anything else tied to your membership. Payment information, processed through our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number ourselves. Recipe submissions, including any family stories, photos, or personal history you choose to share. And anything you send us directly, in a message or an email.

What's collected automatically. Basic technical information, like browser type and a general location inferred from your IP address. This is standard for most websites and used for security and performance, nothing more.

How we use your information

We use it to fulfill your membership, including mailing physical recipe cards, process payments, respond to recipe submissions and stay in touch with you about them, send service-related emails, and improve the Site and the archive itself.

If you submit a recipe or a family story, we may feature it, including your name or the name you submit it under, in the archive, on the Site, and in our marketing, including Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube. If you'd rather your name not appear publicly, tell us and we won't use it. We will never share the personal details behind a submission, your mailing address or payment information, publicly or with any third party for marketing purposes.

Who helps us run this

A small number of service providers process certain information on our behalf: Stripe for payments, Supabase for our database and account infrastructure, Resend for transactional email, and Netlify for hosting the Site. Each has its own privacy practices governing what they handle for us. We do not sell your personal information to anyone, full stop.

Cookies and tracking

The Site may use cookies or similar tools, including ones provided by platforms like Pinterest, for basic analytics and to understand how our marketing is doing. You're free to control cookies through your browser settings at any time.

How long we keep your information

We hold onto your information for as long as your membership is active, and for a reasonable period after that, to meet our legal, tax, and record-keeping obligations.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, any time, by writing to the email below. We'll respond within a reasonable time.

Children's privacy

Whispers of Kindness isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational care to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't promise absolute security, no one honestly can.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the project grows. The effective date above will always reflect the most recent revision.
